Confidential support and a welcoming community for LGBTQ+ people seeking asylum or refugees in Scotland (New Scots).

New Scots support

One‑to‑one support, group activities, and information sessions, delivered by a team with experience of seeking asylum as an LGBTQ+ person.

One-to-one support

A flexible space to talk about anything relating to claiming asylum, refugee status, or LGBTQ+ identities and communities.

Sessions can help with:

  • anxiety, stress or low mood
  • identity, or coming out
  • claiming asylum, and the immigration system
  • education, employability, or volunteering
  • housing
  • healthcare
  • anything you’d like support with

Cost: free.

Where: email, phone, online, or in-person in Glasgow.

Group activities

Community spaces where LGBTQ+ New Scots can connect and build community.

Activities include:

  • relaxed social meetups
  • regular groups

Cost: free.

Where: online or in-person in Glasgow.

How to join: you must attend an appointment and show your biometric card before joining our group activities. To arrange an appointment please contact glasgow@lgbthealth.org.uk  or phone 0141 255 1767.

Information sessions

Community information sessions where you can learn your rights as an LGBTQ+ New Scot and find out about support in the local community to help you integrate.

Sessions can help with:

  • your rights in the UK
  • mental health
  • immigration
  • asylum claims
  • sexual health
  • safety and crime reporting
  • local LGBTQ+ community
  • volunteering

We partner with community organisations to cover a range of topics.
