Celebrating our Volunteers: Meet our Events Team
Our Events Team has always been at the heart of our work to create safer spaces for LGBTQ+ people. We’re proud to celebrate the seven brilliant volunteers who make up this team – each one curious, kind, and thoughtful. They bring consistency, care, and a deep commitment to putting the needs, voices and interests of our community first.
Together, they offer insight, support and creative energy that help shape our events and activities. They create space for reflection, collaboration and imagination – the foundation for meaningful and inclusive programming.
This team inspires us every day. They encourage our staff to keep building connections across the LGBTQ+ community – something we all need now more than ever. At every planning meeting, they model what care and inclusion look like: taking time to share names, pronouns and check in on how everyone’s feeling. They hold space for everyone’s voices and experiences, allowing each of them to contribute in a way that feels right for them, and to get the most out of their volunteering experience.
They go above and beyond to make our events more accessible and welcoming by:
- engaging warmly and meaningfully with people at events
- carefully reviewing feedback after each event
- reflecting regularly on how they work as a team
- creating a detailed Accessibility Checklist to make sure every space and activity meets the needs of our community.
The team brings a rich range of lived experience – from being LGBTQ+, disabled, neurodivergent or a person of colour, to facing mental health challenges and the effects of discrimination. By sharing openly with one another, they build a deeper understanding of how to create inclusive spaces for everyone.
Our community consistently praises them for their warmth, friendliness and care. The feedback about their involvement has been 100% positive – a testament to the trust and reliability they’ve built through their commitment. In a time when our community continues to face challenges, their work shows how a supportive volunteering culture can help nurture a stronger, healthier culture in our community overall.
