Community Drop-In: EHRC Consultation
We’re inviting LGBTQ+ community members to come together and respond to the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC)’s consultation on its draft Code of Practice for services, public functions and associations. The consultation on the EHRC’s forthcoming Code of Practice follows the recent Supreme Court’s judgment in the case For Women Scotland v Scottish Ministers. Come by for a cuppa, something sweet, and a chance to take collective action in a supportive space.
As we highlighted in this statement, the consultation’s content focuses largely on ways to exclude trans people from single-sex services and spaces. We know this is deeply upsetting and distressing for many in our community. We also know that not everyone will want to—or be able to—respond, and that is absolutely okay.
This drop-in is for those who do want to respond and may need a bit of support—from staff or from each other—to do so.
We’ll have:
- A couple of laptops available for use (please feel free to bring your own device)
- Printed guidance from our friends at Scottish Trans, Trans Actual, and Mermaids on how to respond to the consultation in the way that works best for you
- Staff on hand to chat things through and offer support
All LGBTQ+ people (age 16+) are welcome to drop-in.
We welcome the entire diversity of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT+) community including non-binary, queer, intersex, asexual people and all identities under the LGBTQIA+ umbrella.
We also welcome people who are exploring or aren’t sure about their sexual orientation/gender identity, or who do not use labels for either.
Planning to drop in?
Please email Mitch at mitch@lgbthealth.org.uk with your name and pronouns to let us know! Or phone our admin number at 0141 255 1767.
The event is hosted at LGBT Health and Wellbeing in the Adelphi Centre.
The venue and our event features:
Wheelchair accessible with level access
️ Free parking and drop-off area at the front of building
Accessible gender neutral toilets
Please be aware the venue is not fully wheelchair accessible. There is level access throughout the building, but there are no electronic or touch pad operated doors (staff will be there to let you in). Likewise the accessible WCs are behind sliding doors. These issues have been fed back to the Adelphi Centre and we hope they will be improved for all of our community members in mind.
We ask everyone who come to our events, follow our safer spaces commitment (this includes attendees, staff and volunteers).
Read our guidelines and commitment before joining.
Breaches of our commitment might result in you being asked to leave the drop-in.
