SUMMARY:Navigating Healthcare: A Trans Workshop Series
DESCRIPTION:We know that trans folk in Scotland face a multitude of challenges accessing healthcare – whether that’s routine GP appointments\, gender affirming care\, mental health support\, or any other type of care.  \n  \nWhat can we do to support and resource trans folk to navigate the healthcare system as it currently exists? This four-part workshop series will consider peer-to-peer health advocacy as one way towards better access to healthcare\, as well as exploring other possibilities.   \n  \nThe series will aim to:  \n\nDiscuss the barriers faced by trans folk accessing all parts of the healthcare system as it currently exists. \n\n\nInvestigate the ways trans folk could be supported and resourced to navigate this system\, including peer-to-peer health advocacy. \n\n\nExplore practical steps that could be taken towards these outcomes. \n\n\nProduce together a physical piece of work exploring this topic. What this work looks like will be decided by those attending.  \n\n  \nThere will be an option to share in a simple vegan meal at the start of the evening.   \n  \nPlease note this workshop series will not be providing advice on navigating healthcare. If you’re looking for practical or wellbeing support\, please take a look at our trans support services page. \n  \nA note on research ethics  \n  \nThis workshop is part of a project by Grace (they/them)\, a student of MSc Health and Social Policy at the University of Strathclyde.   \n  \nGrace will be observing and reflecting on the process of working together on this project. These observations will be used to write a reflective essay which will be seen by their supervisors and external markers only. Recordings will take the form of written notes which do not include any identifiable information. Attendees will be asked for consent for the Grace to record their observations.   \n  \nIf you have questions or concerns about this research project\, please contact Grace’s supervisor\, Dr Lisa Garnham (lisa.garnham@strath.ac.uk).
